How It Works
MM TRAFFIC SCHOOL
How It Works: Understanding Traffic School
Step 1: You Got a Ticket
You received a traffic violation—maybe you missed a speed limit change, were distracted, or just had a long day. Whatever the reason, getting pulled over can be stressful, time-consuming, and expensive. But you’re not alone—California drivers receive over 4 million traffic tickets each year, and MM Traffic School is here to help.
Step 2: Understand Your Options
Getting a ticket doesn’t automatically mean it goes on your record. If you're eligible, traffic school gives you the chance to prevent a point from being added to your driving record, which can help you avoid higher insurance rates.
The court may send you a letter outlining your violation, options, assigned court, and payment details. (Note: Courts are not required to send this letter, so check your eligibility proactively.)
Step 3: Why Take Traffic School?
Traffic school—also known as defensive driving school—is a refresher course that helps you stay informed about driving laws and safe practices. It’s voluntary, but highly recommended if you want to:
- Keep a violation off your record
- Prevent insurance rate increases
- Refresh your driving knowledge
Step 4: Are You Eligible?
You may qualify for traffic school if:
- You have a valid driver’s license
- Your violation wasn’t drug/alcohol-related
- You didn’t receive a misdemeanor
- You weren’t driving commercially
- You haven’t attended traffic school in the last 18 months
If you're taking the course to reduce insurance rates, check with your provider first—some offer discounts for new or senior drivers.
Step 5: Choose a State-Approved School
Make sure your traffic school is California DMV-licensed. MM Traffic School (Lic. #E0504) offers both online and in-person courses. Most people choose online for convenience—it works on any mobile device with internet access.
Step 6: Enroll and Complete the Course
Once you qualify, click Start Course and enter your details (name, address, email, license number, case number, assigned court, etc.). The course is easy to follow and designed to be completed at your own pace.
Step 7: Certificate Submission
After completing the course, MM Traffic School will electronically submit your certificate to the court and DMV. You’ll receive an email confirmation once it’s done.
Step 8: Court Processing
Once the court processes your completion, the violation will be kept off your driving record. Just remember—you can’t attend traffic school again for 18 months, so drive carefully!
